The
CCF/FCMA is pleased to announce that tickets are now available for Hindsight/Foresight, our inaugural public symposium celebrating
contemporary Craft practice and the impact of the Saidye Bronfman
Award for Excellence in Fine Craft has had on professionalism in
Canadian Craft. Seating is limited and tickets are only $15, so
purchase your ticket online today!
For
over 30 years, the Saidye Bronfman Award was the highest level of
recognition for achievement in Canadian Fine Craft. In 2007, the
award evolved from a stand-alone prize into one of eight Governor
General’s Awards in Visual Arts. Throughout its existence, the award
has acknowledged the work of the best Craft artists in the country,
highlighting their talents and rewarding their dedication to the
field.
Each
speaker taking part in the symposium is a winner of this highest
honour, including our distinguished panelists and moderator.
Alberta’s own Charles Lewton-Brain (metal artist) will serve as Hindsight/Foresight’s moderator, with panelists Paul Mathieu (a
British Columbia based ceramic artist), Kye Yeon Son (a Nova Scotia
based metal artist) and Michael Fortune (an Ontario based
designer/maker of furniture). Each speaker will discuss the evolution
of their life’s work, the impact of the Bronfman/GG Award on their
professional practice and their visions for current and future
directions in contemporary Craft practice in Canada.
Please
join us at the National Gallery of Canada’s Lecture Hall (380 Sussex
Drive, Ottawa, Ontario) on Thursday, October 18th
from 3 – 7 pm for this all too rare opportunity to celebrate four of
Canada’s most esteemed practitioners in Contemporary Craft.
