From October 18th to the 22nd, 2013, the CCF/FCMA is hosting our annual National Craft Conference, and this time, we’re pumping things up… by 10,000! In honour of the Craft Council of British Columbia’s 40th anniversary, we’ve partnered to launch a full schedule of learning, sharing, and networking at the 10,000 Hours: Craft Invested Conference.
The events feature something for everyone. Exhibitions, lectures, panel discussions, workshops, even a fundraising gala to support the work of the Craft Council of British Columbia are on the roster. Hot topics in craft culture will have you questioning the meaning behind craft work, the impact it has on a community, the historical and contemporary connotations it holds and the ways which we can work towards a better future for Canadian makers and the public at large.
Wrapping up the open events is our conference summit: the CCF/FCMA’s second annual National Symposium. This year’s theme, Connection & Collection, brings the voices of four nationally ecognized gallery owners, curators and collections professionals to the stage. We are delighted to have keynote speaker and moderator Dr. Sandra Alfoldy (NSCAD, Art Gallery of Nova Scotia,
etc.) speak alongside special guests Virginia Henry (Canada Art Bank), Denis Longchamps (Burlington Art Center) and Jonathon Bancroft-Snell (Jonathon Bancroft-Snell Gallery).

After three days of public events, the CCF/FCMA’s board of directors, our many member organization representatives, and our special guest speakers will hunker down for two and a half days of information exchange, professional development, strategic and collaborative project planning. The National Craft Conference is our only opportunity to meet face to face as an entire national team, and we will be making the most of every moment.
The CCF/FCMA is proud to be a partner in the 10,000 Hours: Craft Invested conference. We look forward to the connections that will be made, the debates that will rage, and especially, our toast
