The CCF/FCMA is excited to announce our next national festival of events: Craft Year 2015. Just over 2 years away, this special celebration of Canadian Craft will draw attention to the diverse range of work being made, sold, shown and studied all across the country.
This announcement is meant to plant a seed. We want to inspire you and those in your community to connect with Craft, to plan events, to think big and to get started in preparation for this special year. The opportunities are endless. Galleries, boutiques, festivals, museums, artist co-ops, schools, community centres and more are encouraged to plan their programming with Craft Year 2015 in mind.
Whether it’s an exhibition, workshop, book launch, studio tour, lecture series, symposium, conference, pop-up shop, craft swap, auction or any other event you can imagine – every aspect of the Craft experience can be a part of Craft Year 2015.
Just over 5 years ago, the Canadian Crafts Federation launched the first ever Craft Year national festival of events, featuring exhibitions, workshops, book launches, studio tours, lectures, conferences and more. Craft Year 2007 was a blockbuster hit, totalling 712 events, well over the initial goal of 50 to 100 events. It was the first time a national tally of Craft events had taken place over the course of one year, surprising even those within the community with it’s scale.
To prepare for Craft Year 2015, the CCF/FCMA will release more information in the coming months. It is our mission to encourage as much activity as possible, draw public and media attention, secure high profile displays and launch an informative online resource in pursuit of a greater understanding and appreciation of Craft.
Stay tuned as more information is made available, but in the meantime – get those creative juices flowing! Talk to your colleagues in the community, connect with your local provincial or territorial craft council, get in touch with local galleries and let them know that this special year will take place.
