Experiential Tourism with #10DigitTech

Here at the CCF/FMCA, we believe in the power of a craft gathering. Pair amazing people with amazing places, and you get amazing content. For our #10digittech conference in Saskatoon, the Prairie craft community is ready to deliver.

Aside from the excellent itinerary of meetings, talks, and panels, we’ve got a whole lot of fun planned to ensure that conference delegates get a solid dose of Saskatchewan craft and culture. Whether you’re a local, a regular, a visitor from afar or a virtual fan – we’ve got something unique in store for you.

Two nights of free events are open to craft council and community members. On March 6th, delegates and craft council members will mix and mingle during the Craft Social at the Saskatchewan Craft Council, with live music played on handcrafted instruments from musician and luthier David Freeman. Don’t miss your chance to meet textile artist Melanie Monique Rose and see her exhibition, “The Flower People”, and to see what the Council has in their boutique from talented local craft artists.

On March 7th, after the public symposium wraps, the celebrations continue, with a visit to the USask Art Galleries and Collection, where we will be announcing the winner of the 2020 Robert Jekyll Award for Leadership in Craft. Exhibitions including the timeless Kenojuak Ashevak : Life and Legacy, and Catherine Blackburn’s moving “with these hands, from this land” exhibition of new works in jewellery, beading and painting.

Feeling the need to create? Explore the Hiebert’s Hot Shop Creative Day on March 4th. Hop on the bus from our conference hotel (The Alt Hotel) and try your hand at two 2.5 hour hands-on guided sessions in glass, jewellery, basketry, blacksmithing or pottery! Lunch will be provided, but you’ve got to register before each class fills!

Not able to be there in person? Follow us on social media to tag along for the ride. CCF/FCMA Digital Content Developer, Phil Lizotte, will be on-site, capturing curated moments throughout each day of the conference and sharing them online. From our more social activities to the core content of the talks throughout four days of events, Phil will be sharing his insights and keeping you up to date with highlights from all the events.
