The CCF/FCMA is proud to announce the location of our 10th Annual National Conference – the TRYP by Wyndham Quebec Hotel PUR in the heart of Quebec City. (September 24th to the 27th, 2015) Located in the city’s Saint Roch historic district, a short walk from the fortified Old City (a UNESCO world heritage treasure) our conference hotel is surrounded by history, culture, eateries, nightlife, shops, and more.
Conference attendees will experience the beauty of Quebec City and the talent of the craft artists from the city, as well as the work of other provincial, national and international contemporary craft artists. Our featured social events include the greatly anticipated Naked Craft exhibition opening at Centre Materia (the only artist run centre devoted entirely to Canadian contemporary craft), our 4th annual public craft symposium, and a welcome reception featuring a new national award and a Craft Film Festival.
The conference itinerary is in its final stages of confirmation, and we’ll release all the details in the coming weeks. In the meantime, here is a little taste of what we have planned:
-
Our two main panels: ‘Putting Craft in its Place: Everywhere’ and ‘Portraits of Success: New Craft Tactics & Programming’.
-
A ‘3 minutes of fame’ presentation series, where craft organizations from across Canada have just three minutes to share who they are and what they do – just enough to grab your attention!
-
An update on the Citizens of Craft national campaign, with time devoted to national discussion on the future steps for advancing the campaign goals: increasing the understanding of and appreciation for craft.
-
A presentation from the Canada Council for the Arts, discussing the changes to come at the national arts funding agency.
-
A series of concurrent sessions that touch on the various issues craft organizations face, where debate and engagement between craft professionals will thrive!
Enjoy meeting professionals in your field, making connections that matter, and learning about the many activities in contemporary craft that make the sector so vibrant. With all we have planned, we know you’ll want to be a part of the events, and to stay a little longer, too. Explore Quebec City, a culturally rich and historic locale! Visit the Muséé des civilization, the Plains of Abraham, historic churches, even Montmorency Falls Park, where the waterfall is 30 meters higher than Niagara Falls! There’s something for everyone at this very special Craft Year 2015 event.
