We know you’ve heard, but are you hooked yet? Craft Year 2015 had a great launch, and we’re delighted to have 427 likes on our Facebook page and 106 followers on Twitter. If you have not already joined us, please do, and tell your friends!
Craft Year 2015 isn’t the only thing hitting social media with a bang this week. A fun new viral activity has been popping up on Facebook walls, bringing with it beautiful artwork to news feeds worldwide!
The challenge is simple: that artists post three photos of work from throughout their careers for five days, each day nominating another artist to take on the challenge. This simple act has brought such beauty out of the woodwork, showcasing the careers of artists and bringing attention not only to their recent work, but to the history of their careers.
The challenge is a fun way to see the growth and span of a single artists career in just a few posts. Sharing images is central to the way we communicate through social media, where catching a viewer’s eye can be tough. It is a creative means to get your artwork in front of that viewer, exposing your social circle to new and previous work in bite sizes, while also giving credit to artists you admire, by tagging and nominating them.
The jewellery work popping up through this challenge is being tagged with #artjewelerychallenge, which is attributed to Donna Greenberg, but we’ve seen everything from jewellery to ceramics to glass and more as artists nominate their friends in other mediums. Every new post links us to a larger circle of craft artists.
We encourage everyone taking part in the challenge to tag their posts with #CraftYear2015 or #métiersdart2015 so that everyone in the Craft Year community can enjoy!
