In an interesting story reported last week by CBC NEWS, a Canadian Heritage poll reveals that Canadians believe “arts and culture is worthy of government support”. Of those polled, 39 per cent agreed that the government should support arts and culture ‘a great deal,’ and 48 per cent agreed to support the arts a ‘moderate amount’.
The study also concluded that 57 per cent said they were involved in artistic activity within that past year and 71 per cent of those polled use the internet as a way to engage in art and culture. The Department of Canadian Heritage, who commissioned the survey, develops national policies for Canadian culture.
