The CCF/FCMA was saddened to hear of the passing of famed ceramic artist, John Chalke, on March 27th, 2014. A leader in the ceramic community in Alberta, John was a prolific artist. Featured in well over 250 solo and group exhibitions and more than 30 books on ceramic art, his work is distinctive and expansive. The recipient of many prestigious awards, John collected accolades including the Governor General’s Award in media and Visual Arts for Fine Craft, the Alberta Craft Council’s Stainer Memorial Award for Excellence in Ceramics, and was a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Art.
John leaves behind a legacy, and will live on through his many works in public and private collections, and in the hearts and minds of his family and friends.
