The CCF/FCMA was thrilled to be a strategic partner for this year’s Crafted Vancouver – the only month-long festival in North America designed to celebrate the vitality of our hand-crafted world. The opening events, emceed by our very own Maegen Black, CCF/FCMA Director, were attended by over 200 people, including a group of five international guest artists from Mexico as well as craft artists from across British Columbia. With over 70 events, Crafted Vancouver brings together a unique blend of local, national & international independent makers, studios, galleries, museums, showrooms, shops & luxury brands, craft & design schools and craft member associations, all making, exhibiting, supporting or selling exceptional craft-based work.
Following the opening events, on May 10th, the Canadian Crafts Federation recorded a special LIVE edition of Citizens of Craft: The Podcast, featuring studio furniture makers Arnt Artzen and Patrick Christie, which you can listen to here.
Even more events are on now, featuring a selection of local, national and international makers, from emerging talent to the celebrated master. This includes intimate events and open exhibitions such as “Unbound: Craft Beyond Function” taking place May 23 – 26. The festival programme is carefully designed to cultivate interest and appreciation of fine craft between skilled craftspeople, the dedicated collector and an emerging craft appreciator market in intimate settings and encounters.
Events also include film viewings, dining and tasting opportunities, guided walks and studio tours, artist talks, and exhibitions such as “Princesses and Horses” hosted by the Craft Council of British Columbia and featuring works by Anyuta Gusakova. The festivities continue until May 30th! Crafted Vancouver is custom designed to get you up close and personal, celebrating exceptional work in fresh and sometimes surprising ways.
