As the Canada Council for the Arts continues its internal development of their new funding model, the Canadian Crafts Federation continues to take part in the consultation process, through ongoing meetings with the Visual Arts Section at Canada Council and with our colleagues at the Visual Arts Alliance.
In late 2014, the CCF and many of our member organizations took part in a national review of the visual arts sector organized by the Canada Council, bringing voices from all aspects of the visual arts together to discuss common issues, modern practice, and future goals. Art. Future. Change., the report from that consultation is available online here, and is now being sourced in the Canada Council’s latest report about the consultation process, titled: Towards a New Funding Model, seen here.
Towards a New Funding Model includes an explanation of why the Council is undertaking these changes, and the key points they have gathered from their consultation with the arts community thus far. It provides insight into the issues the Council intends to tackle through their planned changes. The report is short, and worth reading whether you are familiar with the Canada Council’s intentions or if you are just trying to grasp what the re-visioning is all about.
By continuing conversations with the Visual Arts section at the Canada Council, the CCF is keeping on top of the changes to come. We are in regular communication with our colleagues at the Visual Arts Alliance, who continue to seek consultation opportunities with the Canada Council as the process moves forward.
The Council has confirmed that they will announce the general structure of the new funding model on June 3rd – with further details on the specific programming to come later. Further consultation with the sector is expected this fall, and the CCF will be sure to stay active and involved.
