Canadian Craft Accepted into 2011 Art Bank

The Canada Council Art Bank has unveiled it’s 2011 acquisitions. Among that collection are fine craft works by Anna Torma, David Harper, and Anna Williams. Torma’s embroidered hanging, “Transverbal IV” and Harper’s embroidered portrait on goat hide, “Him (from the Wedding Portraits series)” will be added to the Art Bank’s massive collection, alongside Williams’ untitled work, a bronze fawn. Works by 50 other artists from across the country were also purchased.

These works were among some 1,875 submissions this year, and were chosen for their relevance to current Canadian art practices, appropriateness for rental to government offices and public spaces, the work’s representation of regional and cultural diversity and, of course, artistic excellence.

You can read the media release and complete list of works on the Art Bank Website.
