Congratulations to visual artist, Lou Lynn, for receiving the Saidye Bronfman Award for excellence in the Fine Crafts. Lou Lynn explores the “archaeology of daily life” through her nearly forty-year sculptural career. The Saidye Bronfman Award recognizes the exceptional work of individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of fine crafts in Canada.

Lou Lynn, a former board member of the Canadian Crafts Federation, works with glass as a sculptural medium, exploring form and materiality rather than function. Lynn’s artwork is recognizable as everyday objects, but as she says in her statement, she “leaves[s] the questions of purpose hanging in the air.”

 “Her work not only draws us in to admire its skillful and aesthetically pleasing facture—it makes us think about our histories as makers and about the hand, mind and body working in concert to create beautiful and functional objects that enrich our world.”
