The CCF/FCMA invites you to hear Paul Mathieu speak on October 18th, 2012 at our first ever national symposium, “Hindsight/Foresight”, where he will participate as one of four speakers in a discussion of contemporary Canadian Craft and its impact on the contemporary practices of award winning Fine Craft artists. As a ceramist, writer and Associate Professor at the Emily Carr University of Art + Design, his wisdom as a Canadian Artist and as a professor at one of Canada’s premier post-secondary institutions will add a experienced viewpoint to the symposium.
Paul Mathieu was the 2007 winner of the Saidye Bronfman Award for excellence in Fine Crafts. The $25,000 prize is presented annually to an exceptional craftsperson. In addition, artwork by the recipient is added to the Canadian Museum of Civilization`s permanent collection. With this award, the Samuel and Saidye Bronfman Family Foundation (in association with the Canadian Council for the Arts and the Canadian Museum of Civilization) recognized Mathieu`s outstanding body of work and his important contribution to the development of crafts in Canada.
Paul Mathieu, an internationally known Canadian Ceramist, is a seasoned artist who investigates “the role and function of ceramics within culture in general and art in particular”. With a successful career and more than 20 solo exhibitions under his belt, Mathieu will bring a tenacious portfolio and background to the symposiums panel of speakers.
