Call for Candidacy – Canada Summer Jobs: Content Creator

The Canadian Crafts Federation / Fédération canadienne des métiers d’art (CCF/FCMA) is seeking a motivated and digitally savvy summer student to join our team as a Content Creator. The Content Creator will support the Canadian Crafts Federation (CCF/FCMA) in developing high-quality communications materials that strengthen the visibility, coherence, and impact of the craft sector across Canada. This role provides hands-on experience in writing, digital storytelling, cultural communications, and advocacy messaging in a national cultural context. The participant will contribute to social media content, website updates, blogs, newsletters, sector reports, and policy-related writing, helping the Federation communicate clearly and consistently with the public, partners, and members.

Contract Duration: 8 weeks of 35 hours, ending before August 29, 2026
Total Hours: 280 hours
Hourly Wage: $18.00
Work Environment: Remote – Home Office
Languages Required: English and French (Intermediate oral, reading, and writing)

Key Responsibilities

  • Writing, editing, and scheduling social media posts that highlight Canadian craft, sector achievements, national programming, exhibitions, awards, policy initiatives, and community stories. 
  • Developing content for long-form blog posts, artist or organization features, project updates, behind-the-scenes stories, and explanatory articles that help Canadians understand the breadth of craft practice and sector priorities. 
  • Supporting updates to the CCF/FCMA website, including refreshing page content, reorganizing information for clarity, improving navigation, updating project descriptions, and ensuring language consistency across the site. 
  • Assisting in drafting newsletters and membership communication about new programs, opportunities, and sector developments. 
  • Preparing written summaries, profiles, program descriptions, and promotional copy for exhibitions, conferences, learning initiatives, and collaborative projects with national partners. 
  • Assisting in the preparation of policy-oriented materials such as position papers, sector snapshots, briefing notes, and advocacy summaries under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Conducting research to support communication accuracy, including gathering information on cultural policy updates, national arts news, export/trade developments, EDI initiatives, and craft-sector data. 
  • Supporting content collection from partners across Canada by gathering stories, event details, images, and updates from craft councils and national networks. 
  • Managing and organizing digital assets for communications, including image folders, captions, alt-text creation, metadata, file naming, and accessibility considerations. 
  • Helping prepare communications templates and ensuring brand consistency in tone, terminology, and visual presentation.
  • Monitoring digital engagement analytics to assess performance, identify trends, and help refine communications strategies. 

The participant will gain experience in digital communications strategy within a national arts service organization; writing for multiple audiences (public, policymakers, arts professionals, council partners); content planning and editorial scheduling; arts journalism and storytelling; policy-informed writing; web content management; social media engagement and analytics; and best practices in accessible and inclusive communications. 

The role offers mentorship in navigating cultural-sector language, understanding national arts networks, and developing writing skills that support both public engagement and cultural advocacy. This position provides meaningful exposure to communications work in the arts, preparing the participant for future roles in arts administration, digital media, cultural policy, nonprofit marketing, and creative sector storytelling.
