Pre-Budget Consultations

On August 5th, the Canadian Crafts Federation submitted three recommendations to the Federal Government’s pre-budget consultation system. Our thanks go out to the Canadian Arts Coalition, who organized cultural community consultation teleconferences to identify common themes that could be supported by the entire cultural milieu. Consultation with the Visual Arts Alliance also solidified our version of the recommendations,
which featured similar perspectives from our partners in the visual arts.

The CCF’s three recommendations included:

1. A 10% increase in annual funding to
the Canada Council for the Arts in 2014-2015.
2.
Renewed investment in the arts and
cultural industries programs at the Department of Canadian Heritage.
3.
Allocate new funding towards a
cultural diplomacy strategy.

These funding increases would encourage the growth of the arts and culture sectors, including the craft sector, which currently does or would benefit from the programming identified in the recommendations.

To read more about all three recommendations and the backup information on expected costs, funding impact, expected beneficiaries, etc, please see the full document on the CCF advocacy page, or read the pdf here.
