Maurice Savoie

The CCF mourns the passing of Maurice Savoie, who died earlier this month. Savoie was a Montréal based ceramic artist who was known for his technical mastery and innovative approach.  He came to prominence in the
1960s for his work for the Quebec pavilion at Expo 67.

Savoie was a member of the Royal Academy of Arts. He studied in Italy and France in 1948. His work is in the collections of the Montréal Museum of Fine Arts, the Musee national des beaux-arts du Québec, the National Gallery of Canada and the Canadian Museum of civilization. A mural work can be found at the McGill metro station.

Savoie received two of Canada’s top prizes for visual art, the Paul-Émile-Borduas Prize and the Saidye-Bronfman Prize.
