Makers, make your presence known!

On October 25th, members of the arts community will converge on Parliament Hill to meet with over 75 elected officials to discuss the importance of the arts. Organized by the Canadian Coalition of the Arts, this “Day on the Hill” is an annual opportunity to engage our federal government representatives in a discussion about culture and art – including Craft.

Maegen Black, Administrative Director of the CCF-FCMA will take part in the sessions, as will Rowena House and Justin Ford of the Nunavut Arts and Crafts Association. These representatives will speak from the Craft perspective, adding to a sea of voices asking for recognition and support of all cultural industries.

No matter where you are in the country – you can take part! We encourage Craft artists and enthusiasts to set their own local meetings and write to their member of parliament. Not sure where to start, or what to say?  Check out the Canadian Coalition of the Arts website, which has tons of helpful tips, hints and information on how to get involved. A local, personal connection between you and your member of parliament helps to personalise the arts as a real, viable industry in their constituency.
