Craft Nova Scotia’s New Craft Your Own Path: Online Courses Program ↗

Craft Nova Scotia is pleased to launch a new “Craft Your Own Path” program aimed at emerging and mid-career craftspeople, providing them with essential tools and materials to hone their skills. Registration for the “Craft Your Own Path” course, “Business of Craft,” a microcredential program developed in partnership with the Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC), opens on February 1st, 2024.

Craft NB Christmas Festival Vendor Registration ↗

Craft NB’s annual Christmas Festival will have a second weekend in Fredericton at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery from December 7 – 8, 2024. Admission to the show is FREE, allowing members of the general public to view and purchase fine craft by master craftspeople working in glass, leather, pottery, jewellery, metalworks, fine art, wood, fibre, basketry and more! This year Craft NB is adding a limited number of spots for emerging artisans (general & student members). Craft in Miniature: Manitoba Craft Council’s Member Show 2025 ↗

The theme for the 2025 Manitoba Craft Council Member Show is “Craft in Miniature.” The show will take place from January 10 – February 27th, 2025. All Manitoba Craft Council members are welcome to submit their smallest crafted items, and all submissions will be accepted (maximum size requirement of 15cm x 15cm x 15cm).

Loewe Foundation Craft Prize ↗

The Loewe Foundation seeks to disseminate and raise awareness of fine craft and to support innovative craftspeople from around the world at the forefront of their fields. The winning work will reinterpret traditional craft media—including but not limited to ceramics, bookbinding, enamelwork, jewellery, lacquer, metal, furniture, leather, textiles, glass, paper, and wood—demonstrating the continuing valuable contribution of such crafts to our time. The prize for the winning entry is 50,000 euros. The shortlisted and winning works will feature in the exhibition and accompanying catalogue in Madrid in Spring 2025.

Ceramics and Sustainability Symposium ↗

Participants in this two-day symposium at The Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery will examine the sustainability of ceramics practices, how to measure the environmental impacts of ceramic studio work, and contemporary approaches to climate change and the natural environment in ceramic arts. Designed for practicing ceramicists, this symposium will feature events such as an artist round table talk, an exhibition tour, hands-on demonstrations, and insightful presentations by artists and professionals, alike.

Residency • Banff, AB | November 27, 2024

The Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity: Indigenous Haute Couture Program ↗

From April 1 to May 2, this five-week hybrid residency, led by D’Arcy Moses, will support twelve Indigenous designers in advancing their personal design projects. The initial online portion equips designers to arrive on campus ready to create haute couture garments or accessories. Once on campus, they will focus on pattern development and embellishments while benefiting from full access to the Banff Centre’s Visual Arts facilities. Apply by November 27th.

This exhibit celebrates the beauty and resilience of the Anishinaabe and Dakota peoples, and commemorates the 25th anniversary of the Southern Chiefs’ Organization (SCO). Featuring objects from the 34 Nations represented by SCO, Manidoo Miiniigooizowin, A Gift from the Creator is a celebration of the past, present, and future. Many of the objects in this exhibit have been generously shared by individuals and families who proudly represent their respective Nations, and all were designed or made by talented artists and makers from the SCO member Nations.

A Living Palette ↗

The Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery presents A Living Palette, featuring the work of five artists taking inspiration from nature, biology and the environment. Judy Blake (Lincoln, New Brunswick), Jess Riva Cooper (Toronto, Ontario), Heather McCaig (Sussex, New Brunswick), Darlene Pratt (London, Ontario), and Alejandra Vera (Toronto, Ontario) each invite us into the world of the environment, natural organisms and their sources of life. Sometimes beautiful, sometimes irreverent, this exhibition tackles issues of global warming, feminism, the male gaze, resistance, and survival while pushing the boundaries of ceramic and glass techniques.

Craft Council of Newfoundland & Labrador’s Annex Gallery • St John’s, NF | October 4 to November 8, 2024

Cross-Pollination ↗

Using collaborative storytelling and an array of traditional folk and fine arts practices, artist collective Light House Keepers presents Cross-Pollination, a site-specific installation that responds to ecological anxiety and climate grief with narratives of survival and collective care. The collective draws from folklore, ecology, local histories, and lived experiences to create artifacts, heirlooms, and ephemera from an imagined post-industrial future.

Craft Council of Newfoundland & Labrador’s Annex Gallery • St John’s, NF | October 4 to November 8, 2024

Craft at Risk ↗

Newfoundland and Labrador is known for its traditions and culture, heritage skills, arts, and crafts. But how many people do you know who can run a birch broom, weave a basket, or build a boat? At one point, makers of these types of objects were commonplace in Newfoundland and Labrador. This exhibition highlights the makers of these traditional crafts and demonstrates the importance of these skills.

Warp & Weft ↗

Warp & Weft is an installation of weavings and tapestries created by the extraordinary Finnish artist Kaija Sanelma Harris. The exhibition will be presented across two venues: Saskatchewan Craft Council (SCC) and Remai Modern. In recognition of the complementary missions of the two organizations, SCC’s exhibition highlights the creative, personal, and technical shifts in Harris’ extraordinary work, while Remai Modern’s exhibition will situate her within the context of visual art history.

Beyond the Vanishing Maya: Voices of a Land in Resistance ↗

The first exhibition of its kind, featuring contemporary Maya artworks curated by Maya curator Diego Ventura Puac-Coyoy. This exhibition at the Textile Museum of Canada aims to break down myths and misconceptions about the Maya, their existence, their art and their culture. By placing different artistic expressions used by contemporary Maya artists, including painting, textiles, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, poetry and music on equal footing, the exhibition strives to tell a story that celebrate the richness of Maya art and culture while also challenging European hierarchies in art history.
