Craft is a medium of intricacies. The variety of materials, techniques, functions and sculptural possibilities are endless, while the cultural meaning and value of craft as a storyteller of our collective human experience, is priceless. The CCF/FCMA invites you to explore these theories and more, at our Third Annual National Craft Symposium titled: Heirloom.
From 6pm to 9pm on September 26th, 2014, in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, we will welcome the public to this enthusiastic and thoughtful discussion on the meaningful place craft holds in our studios, our homes, our museums and in our lives. Heirloom will include a wide variety of craft perspectives, including our keynote speaker, writer and curator Gloria Hickey, Director of the Prince Edward Island Museums & Heritage, Dr. David Keenlyside, contemporary tapestry artist Jane Kidd, and one more top-secret special guest. With debates between the panellists and with the audience, the discussion is sure to be lively!
The Heirloom Symposium is one of many special events taking place in Charlottetown that week. In conjunction with the CCF/FCMA’s Annual National Conference, and in partnership with the Prince Edward Island Crafts Council, Heirloom is one of the official celebrations of the province’s sesquicentennial festival, PEI2014.
Learn more about all these events at our newly launched symposium website: heirloom2014heritage.ca, and stay in the loop with event updates, speaker features and other items of interest in the PEI craft community at our Facebook event page here.
Questions? Curious about the National Conference activities, too? If you work directly with a craft organization, either an educational institution, gallery, guild, museum, government cultural department, or like-minded association, you may be eligible to attend! We hope to see you in PEI!
